Hunger in The World
Above 13 present of the people in the world are consuming less than the recommend calories a day. About 2 billion people in the world are under nourished causing malnutrition and increased medical expenses. It is estimated that these expenses are about $30 billion each year. According to Global Hunger Index 55 countries are facing worse hunger situation. The principal cause of hunger is poverty which also causing lack of resources, an extremely unequal income distribution in the world and within specific countries, conflict, and hunger itself. One in nine people in the world do not have sufficient to eat. 98 present of the hunger exists in underdeveloped countries and about 1 in 15 children in developing countries dying from hunger.1 out of 6 infants are born with a low birth weight. In every 10 seconds a child is dying due to hunger related deceases. Of the total hunger 60 present are women. It assumed that 66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry with 23 million in Africa alone. But on the other side the global food production is almost sufficient to all. Apart from poverty the main cause is the wastage of food. Many in the present world scrap some food in the dishes after having enough meal. We may think that amount is too small but the magnitude of the wastes is very high globally. According to a report by UNEP about one third of the world’s food is lost. That means for every 4 calories 1 calorie is wasted without consumption and thrown into garbage. In the most industrialized countries the amount of the food wastage is almost equal to the food production. In USA about 30-40% of the food is wasted which is equal to more than 20 pounds of food per person per month. This also has huge impact on the environment.
So think before you waste food. Buy the amount of food sufficient to you and save food, many others are starving outside.
